Deaf & Hard of hearing

Deafness means that a person has severe hearing losses in both ears. These losses make it extremely difficult to learn and maintain language.

Hard-of hearing means that the person has some loss of hearing. About 5% of the general population have a hearing loss, but only one in 1000 people are deaf.
